I’m trying to figure out the upside here. Like, with the Cenobites, you’re at least happy and immortal. In Event Horizon, they just kill you for the fun of it.

Yes. And you kill them while they are killing you. With the Cenobites, you get to enjoy it in some sense since pain becomes pleasure. But in Event Horizon, it is just horror, blood, pain, and eventual death.

This movie was en experience to be had, quite honestly. It was more suspenseful to me than out right horror (although the horror for me is more existential than "omg wtf!").

I love this movie, but it is horror. I mean, the idea of that other dimension is just pure horror. And I love it.

It's a thin line sometimes? Some of the most beautiful, often cinematic things I've experienced have been explicitly horror.
