If it makes you feel better, I don’t think anyone regards TV Tropes’ fic recs as a reliable source.

I think the recs that appear on the *recommendation* page are fine, and many of them are well-known works in their respective fandoms and should be there. I wouldn't care even if they're self-recced, that's what that section is for.

It's when fanworks appear as examples of tropes that I get all wigged out.
