Failed spectacularly. <3

OP

(Anonymous) 2021-10-30 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, it is 2021???!?!?!?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-30 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, but it still frustrates me when you then get really crappy art (like 2D floating people with no apparent fingers) in an exchange. They should post all they like on their own tumblrs or fandom platforms, fans shouldn't bully new artists, but it's fine to block quietly if you want.

OP

(Anonymous) 2021-10-30 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally understand that, but the fans who are asking him about the OT3 are....not thinking that. And he knows it.

Still 2016, as far as I can tell anyways.

Re: What are you playing?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-30 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Last week I finished Jump Force. It... it was alright. It made me laugh multiple times and anything that gets a laugh out of me is cool in my book. Regardless of the repetitive gameplay and painful to watch story, some of the characters are kinda hot so it made the ride easier. *shrugs* This week I'm playing Balan Wonderworld. It too is... alright... and has made me laugh multiple times. Great aesthetic and soundtrack albeit with forgettable gameplay mechanics and downright cringe cutscenes, oh boy~! Next week (month?) will be dedicated to Cyberpunk 2077 which no doubt will procure the same effect as the first two games mentioned in internet reviews are anything to go by.

Sweeeet! Congratulations - I probably have a copy of the issue somewhere, hahah.

I don't know why I never even tried. Maybe because I didn't know what to write in the actual letter. :D

Yes! Not just because I agree that LMM doesn’t stack up as a singer, but also because I’m a huge music geek who loves comparing different renditions of the same song.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-30 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Sophie/Tara! I loved what we got to see of them together.

(Off to go looking for fic now…)

Comparing fanart to fic

(Anonymous) 2021-10-30 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I’m not really into fanart, do you think “baby’s first fanart” gets more flak than “baby’s first fic”?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-30 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh, I had not considered this as a secret-generating method. I might actually give it a go, at least for inspiration. I mean, it’s not quite as satisfying if you can’t at least follow the discussion.

Ooo, I love her. She's amazing, and all her stuff is beautiful.

Nice. I have not heard of any of these artists, but these songs are pretty cool. Especially want to check out more of The Correspondents now.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-30 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
As well you should be :D! That's so cool!

(Anonymous) 2021-10-30 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind his singing, but I do think that's a great idea.

I want an accurate adaption of the historical Macbeth rather than another play adaption, and I'd especially love it if it were from the perspective of Lady Macbeth/Gruoch (her real name, most likely).

I love the play, but I also love the real history, and while the play has been adapted to death, as far as I know no one has done the real history.

I'd love a Robert the Bruce movie, with him as the star, and an at least reasonably accurate telling.

Re: Chris-Chan

I'm going to call bullshit on whatever Chris Chan did being real without pics of a mugshot. I'm not saying that Chris Chan is an angel, but their trolls being willing to make up bullshit and drama, including grooming a minor for the sake of trying to sext Chris, for its own sake is not unheard of.

If it were real, any sort of official news would have been splattered around twitter/tumblr/reddit already and brandished about. But no, there was only the initial shock and horror of the first rumor, and then nothing else followed.

Re: Comparing fanart to fic

(Anonymous) 2021-10-31 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I suspect 'baby's first fic' tends to get more flack while 'baby's first fanart' is more likely to just be ignored entirely. Like the whole Mary Sue hate thing that was big some years back, and what are Mary Sue fics if not 'baby's first fic'? I feel like people are more likely to click on a newbie's fic (especially if the summary sounds legitimately interesting) and then be annoyed when it sucks, while bad fanart is more often just scrolled past and ignored unless the artist either starts flooding the fandom with art or they start throwing a fit about being ignored.

Re: Comparing fanart to fic

(Anonymous) 2021-10-31 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say so. People interacting with fanfic is typically going to be other fanfic enjoyers/writers. People interacting with fanart tends to also include non-fandom people and internet bros looking for something they can mock.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-31 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's good to normalize not bullying people for their art or not giving concrit when it wasn't asked for, but I also think people are under no obligation to praise/like/reblog art that isn't very good and that they don't really like, just because the artist is new. And if an artist is going to enter any kind of exchange/big bang/zine etc. I think it's perfectly fair to expect a certain level of quality. There's room to learn and new artists should be encouraged but I also don't think they need to be coddled (and at some point they should start learning and improving, I've been in fandoms where one artist is constantly complaining about not getting any attention but they've been drawing the same shitty MS Paint drawings for years at this point. If you want attention in fandom improve enough that people will want to reblog your stuff).

Most of the threads are deducible from context. And contributors aren't the most original folks to start with. I've taken part in tonnes of threads where I didn't know what people were talking about and managed to bluff it just fine.

Hmmm. Mary Queen of Scots and the murder of Lord Darnley?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-31 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
For halloween I left a notebook on a park bench. On the cover I put "If lost, Ret. to Name and Address inside" and inside I wrote "Cursed notebook. Caution: Opening will cause universe to start to disintegrate."

Of course the real curse is my grammar and punctuation.
