103. I watched the Land Before Time for the first time in about seven years last week. That scene made me cry like a tiny child.

112. This whole "the author must reply to every comment left on their fanfiction" mindset just bewilders me. In the fandoms I've been involved with, that was never the norm. I guess it depends on the fandom you're in. Don't get me wrong; I was in good, intimate, friendly fandoms. But there was none of this "If you don't reply to every comment left for you, you're a bit of a dick" sentiment... :/ I just find it confusing.

When I have over 100 comments on my icon post and 95% is only like 'taking 80, 5, 4, 27, 31, 4. Will credit, thanks.' I find it's kinda pointless replying to each comment 'thank you for your feedback'.

If someone takes the time to leave me a comment, I'm going to take the time to say "thank you." Even if it gets redundant saying it several times. My belief is that a sincere compliment deserves a sincere expression of thanks. We do it in RL, don't we?

I don't think people who don't reply to their comments are "dicks" but if I notice that they don't, it will stop me from commenting in the future. YMMV, of course.

If you're in an RL situation where several hundred people are saying your praises, I reckon one blanket "Thank you" is appropriate. You don't see people at the Oscars thanking every individual in the room who applauded them. Overblown example but I think the insincerity does end up making a difference. I think less of someone who just copy-pastes "Thank you!" to everyone who commented. I don't need your insincere crap filling my Inbox. I tend to stop commenting to authors who insist on replying with an empty response.

But, as you said, YMMV.

It's not that I don't get your point, it's just that I'm fairly certain that you missed mine. I used the word "sincere" (twice even). In RL, I don't have a hundred bosses saying "good job" or a hundred co-workers saying "Nice jacket" or even a hundred boyfriends saying "You look gorgeous tonight" (Although, wouldn't that be nice?). And it's a pretty rarefied group that gets "hundreds" of comments. If you're part of that group, more power to you. I can totally understand how you wouldn't have the time or inclination to reply to them all.
