Oh, you are going to get soooo much flack for that secret... I'll condense it down for you:

1. You're a tool.

3. So you've NEVER spent unnecissary amounts of money on, say... DVDs, clothes, porn, manga, fandom merchandise, etc etc...
4. Even if you HAVEN'T (because you're a frakking freak of nature) SO WHAT? People like what they like. Mind your own fucking pennies and let us mind ours.
4. You're making HUGE generalisations about a VERY large group of people, apparently judging all of us by the few that you may or may not personally know or have 'heard about'. We are not a amused and your opinions are invalid until you actually become a part of the subculture rather than judging it from the outside.

There werent any generalizations. It was a simple statement about money. She said if you have it, fine, whatever, but if you're not fucking rich then you're fucking stupid.

Manga merchanise and etc aren't as expensive. Even an on scale gundam model doesn't cost that much. Not nearly as much. Cosplay is more expensive but you spend days dressed up having fun and enjoying yourself. And it isn't pennies you little creep, it's hundreds of dollars you're throwing into fuck ugly dolls that look like a ten year old made them.

How do you know what I've spent? (for the record, not a penny - I like them; I don't own any).

And how do you know what you think is 'fuck ugly' isn't gorgeous to someone else?

Bottom line:

Don't judge others for what they like to buy. If they're happy, they're happy and if the debt collectors come for them, that's a risk people are willing to take for whaetevr reason. You like others getting in your face about what you spend your own money on for your own pleasure?

Okay, so over the course of... say, a year - let's say someone buys twenty DVDs at twenty dollars each (which someone might if they're into a particular genre of film or a TV series or something - and I know a bunch of people who spend MORE than that on DVDs in a year). That's four hundred dollars. Should they be called a moron for doing that? Any more than someone spending four hundred dollars in one go on one doll in one year - something that they enjoy, and is a hobby to them, and a fandom with the same kind of community that a TV fandom has?

It's just a different kind of fandom that some people choose to spend money on. Except that doll collectors don't spend small amounts fairly often on DVDs and clothes - they save up and spend all that money at once on the single vital part of their fandom. I don't see why people have such a hard time understanding that.

If you're short on cash, you might be able to spend twenty dollars on something each month. Those twenty dollars, that month, won't pay off your debts or anything. So, it doesn't seem as crazy.

If you're short on cash, and have 200-700 dollars saved up, and choose to spend it on a fugly creepy doll that doesn't do anything but sit there so you can take emo pics of them (or naked pictures, if you're one of the creepier owners), then it does seem like a bad choice. 'Cause those 200-700 dollars could easily pay a bill.

Actually, no. It's not. My friends who condemn my hobby all buy all their anime, even if they watch it only once. My roommate has spent more on manga and DVDs than I will EVER on these dolls. And their collection isn't outrageously huge, either.
