I have five
-- A Dollzone Yuu and an Iplehouse Soo-Ri that I bought directly from the makers
-- A Dollzone Ian that I bought off a friend who got him and didn't really like him in the flesh/plastic/whatever...
-- A Volks Yo-Tenshi Yuki that I bought off eBay when they released a bunch of them
-- and a Volks Kyotenshi Shiratori, my first, who was a gift from several friends.

All of them are modeled after OCs of mine, and kept put away except for occasional display and photogrpahs.

I highly recommend that, unless there's a doll you like for a very specific reason and you know for sure that's the one, you try to see lots of doll designs in person, or in photos taken by doll owners. The manufacturer sits overexpose and airbrush the doll photos to make them look more "real", so the faces rarely look the way they look 3D and in person.

You should check out LUTS...they have numerous Vampire-versions of their various dolls. I think you'll see something you like there --> eluts.com

I've seen fandom folk blow $10,000.00 on a single painting, Fursuits go for $1,000.00-$10,000.00 easy. A friend of mine just bought a painting for several thousand, I'm currently trying to sell a hobby truck for $35,000.00 (And believe me, that's a discount! It's a rover used for serious offroading) I'm not rich, I just save, sell, work hard, and get the few things that I DO want. ::grins::

I've got the truck, a computer, a fursuit, and some artwork. I live pretty simply otherwise so I CAN get the really nice things I want...

It's all a matter of saving up!

Is there a good LJ community for beginners and stuff like me?

You know, that I'm not sure of --- I don't really take part in the doll community. Den of Angels isn't an LJ comm, but it's a web forum that's pretty much the hub of all things BJD -- be aware, though, there's massive amounts of wank and craziness from time to time amid all the good information, so take everything with a grain of salt.

I'm really shy and easily driven off...Heh...

It's just kind of intimidating, y'know? There's so much information and not really a nice "here's how to do it" sort of thing...

I guess I just need to jump in feet first!

That is true!

My mom loved dolls and would have had a big collection if she could have had. There was one that came out that she just loved but, despite it being affordable, she didn't order right then. Time went by(I even saw one for sale in a doll magazine and asked after the price, over $200 by then!) and we finally got to see one of the dolls at a doll show in our area. Sadly, the real doll didn't live up to the photo from the original ad in the magazine.
