Okay, I'm gonna come right out and say it...that logic is just *silly*. There is no reason to shun popular pairings -- what, are we still in junior high, under the bleachers, hating on the pretty kids? This ship is popular for a reason -- they've been offering fanservice from day one of the show, and they've been consistent ever since, so don't be ashamed of it! I'm not. And neither are 98% of the fandom.

Everyone's welcome to love their own ship, no matter how canonly-supported or ordinary or strange it is. But this bizarre predation of "hate it because it's mainstream is just the kind of bullcrap that Metalocalypse loves to make fun of. Every time they hate on what you like, just remember the mouthbreather shop clerk in Drep du Selv and "I don't sell dem...too digital." Because everybody wants to be like him!
