I completely understand that, because there was so much of that smug hipster behavior. And it’s a shame, because not only is Alice in Borderland good, but the reason I was able to convince my friend to watch Squid Game is to compare it to Alice in Borderland. She’s really squeamish about the potential for gore in shows like this, but found that Alice in Borderland didn’t get that bad after we watched it. So she was interested after hearing Squid Game was the same level in terms of not being to violent, as well as Squid Game being just as good. So all fans of Alice in Borderland have to do is say it’s good for fans of Squid Game like you said, and that would be a much better endorsement than getting smarmy.

I’ve seen and read so much death game fiction, so I get wanting to introduce new fans to the sub genre. Especially some of the best of the sub genre, like Alice in Borderland and Battle Royale. But unless someone is literally saying Squid Game is 100% an original concept(and some people have said that, and it’s annoying, but there’s not as much people saying it as the hipster-types think), there’s no reason to get superior about it.
