You're right. Fandom should just forgive Andrei for killing off a beloved character for a hypocritical reason and stop hating him, after all, he was only being human! We can learn to love him if we try, I mean he's got SO many redeeming qualities!

Please. Also, in the vast majority of those cases, people are reacting that way because they already disliked those characters. I hated Lyle way before he ever punched Setsuna. People are going to bitch about things they dislike and bash characters they hate, it's a part of fandom.

Agreed about the vaginahate, but again, that's usually a part of fandom too. I just try to ignore the things about fandoms that I dislike and focus on the things I do, and to stop taking it so freakin' seriously, it makes for a much more enjoyable experience.

I don't have a problem with people not liking Andrei or Lyle or Marina. But when people try to say that Andrei was ENTIRELY in the wrong and Sergei in NO WAY contributed to seriously fucking that kid up. And Lyle was COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY EVIL for hitting Setsuna, irrational grieving excuses NOTHING. And Marina's job is SO easy and ANYONE could do it, that bitch is USELESS all she does is provide emotional support for Setsuna.

And the idea that bashing and hating a character is ok? No. Stfu. If you don't like a character, fine. Don't force your views all over other people on discussion threads. There are plenty of characters I don't like, but I don't go on bitching and moaning about it.

The same with vaginahate. The idea that bashing female characters for being female is just a "part of fandom" is disgusting.

I was in Geass fandom ever since the very first episode, and at least that fandom had some awesome to balance out the fail. 00 lj fandom has nothing. It's just a circle jerk of people still crying about Neil, hating on Lyle for not being a clone, hating on Marie and Soma and Marina and Louise and Andrei and Saji for being human, and complaining for the sake of complaining. I've been in plenty of fandoms, but this one is terrible, and I don't know if it's because of the Gundam franchise name or what but it. fucking. sucks.

I never said it was "ok," but it's something that's going to happen regardless of how much anyone else dislikes it. That doesn't make it right, but it does mean you have to learn to live with it somehow. You and I probably have different ideas of what constitutes character bashing, but personally I don't give a rat's ass in most cases because it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the series or the characters. I haven't seen people trying to force their opinions onto others in this fandom. I've seen people post comments stating opinions and others commenting in agreement (or disagreement), but no one's ever crossed a line with me in terms of them shoving their opinions down my throat. I honestly do feel bad if that's not your experience. I just know that personally, if someone bashes a character I like, I still think they have a right to voice their opinion, regardless of whether or not I agree with it, and even if what they're saying is illogical/misogynistic/etc. That's why I said I try to ignore it; what else can I do? There are still other aspects of the fandom I enjoy. There are people that are worth talking to. But again, that's only my experience.

Why not? You don't have to cross into "bashing" territory. But that's part of what the fandom is there for in the first place, to let people share their opinions of the series and its characters. I can understand that may be tough to do if you don't agree with the majority, but... well, I guess it just doesn't bother me. :/ The complaining doesn't bother me either. In the end I suppose we've just had vastly different experiences with the fandom... I'm curious, were you a fan since S1?

Sorry if I sound like a bitch, but I've gotten really fed up with this fandom.

I wasn't a fan since S1, I marathoned it in a couple days to watch before S2, and loved it. I'm starting to wish I'd done that with S2 also. It doesn't help that most of my favorite characters are the ones getting bashed for situations beyond their control.

Oh well. I've stopped hanging out on lj, and nearly pulled out of fandom all together except for live-stream threads on /m/ so I guess it doesn't matter.
