Nah, I just think it's absurd that people want to treat him like some sexist monster over a single comment about a fictional character when people in fandom say way worse, and more explicit things, about their faves daily.

It was demeaning af. And coming from the actor of one of the characters in question that the remark referred to, it was not nearly so harmless. Ugh.

In your opinion. Other people think differently, and found it sexist and gross in its implication that the romantic feelings and choices of the female character/woman in question don't matter, and whichever dude fucks the woman in question owns her. I don't think he's a monster, but I did find it very offputting.

This would be the imaginary feelings of the fictional character, correct?

You can't see how this might have unfortunate implications for a dude's real feelings about women that he makes such jokes? I don't know what to tell you. This isn't fanfic; this is a very public comment in an entirely different context.

ayrt

I'm talking about the "he pokes it; he owns it" attitude regarding women expressed in that joke, which is an attitude that I see far too frequently in real life, from men from all sorts of demographics.
