Something similar happened in a small fandom I'm in. There is someone who keeps insisting two characters are siblings because they are something akin to SWORN brothers, not actually brothers. it annoys me to no end that nobody has the courage to say anything to them because everybody is afraid to be called incest supporter.

Ugh, people equating sworn brothers to actual blood-related siblings is one of my massive pet peeves as someone who actually has a degree in Asian studies. The concept exists in part because in Asian societies, friendship is at the very bottom level of the relationship totem pole beneath relationships with your parents/grandparents/ancestors, your husband/wife, and your siblings. You are expected to always put those familial relationships first above any friendships you may have. (For instance, if your parents need you, it is expected that you will cancel any plans you might have with your friends in favor of helping your parents.)

Making someone a sworn sibling is a way to elevate someone who is not a family member to the societal relationship importance of a family member. It does not actually make them a family member in any way.

My current fandom has people like that, too. Both of the characters involved in the juggernaut ship have sworn brothers who are also pretty popular options to ship them with, so naturally some of the juggernaut shippers see this as a threat and call the sworn brother ships incest.

Fortunately I only see those takes on twitter and very few people seem to take that seriously.
