I know what ship you're talking about but I've never seen anyone hate it for that reason. That fandom does have a tooon of super young fans though (like 12~14 y/os) so I feel like it's full of awful takes lol

Yeah, it really is. I also think the youngness might account for a lot the number of people I've encountered who don't grok significant and I thought pretty explicitly laid out aspects of the series. (Like how a particular character can appear in both 2 and 3.)

(Also....ugh...before I actually stepped into the fandom space, I thought DR would be dominated by late teens, at least, but it's so damn young...)

It's weird, felt like Danganronpa fans never grew up like other fandoms (if anything the fandom feels younger, I was into it in like 2013 and most fans were mid-older teens I think). It'd make sense if it actually got any new non-spinoff games, but the last main game came out nearly 5 years ago...

I got into it when it was being translated by orenronen on SA in 2011, and the fans were definitely older teens to adults at first. You could tell when the fanbase started getting younger as the thread grew more popular and widespread with Tumblr. And it just stayed that way from there as the games were finally given official translations. I was still a big fan even after the Tumblr crowd took over completely in 2013(it helps that I also liked Tumblr at the time). My fandom petered out soon after the Despair Girls. And even though I loved V3, I couldn’t help but notice that a large amount of the fandom now seemed to be early teens and preteens. I felt incredibly out of place among the fandom, and that contributed to the feeling of not caring that the franchise was basically dead with Kodaka leaving SpikeChunsoft. So I don’t really think it’s a case of the fandom never growing up so much as it is the age of the majority of the fandom getting younger. I still don’t know why this anime-style death game franchise is so big with kids and teens, but I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised seeing as how Five Nights at Freddy’s is in the same boat.
