So are the operating costs for theater.

(Anonymous) 2021-11-23 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. The operating costs for the theater are the same no matter what film is playing.

But the income is not. The movie that has less of an audience, thus costs more per person for the theater to show. If you want your cute indie arthouse movies, then you need to pony up that difference. You gotta give the theaters an incentive to take a screen out of blockbuster, easy to fill, showings, and put it into a quarter full arthouse movie screening. Especially since the margins the theaters are operating in are razor thin. And you better buy big bucket popcorns and sodas too, because the theaters rely on those sales to really make their the tickets profitable.

tickets at indie theatres are literally cheaper what are you saying :'))))

(Anonymous) 2021-11-23 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
You...you know a lot of theaters do both, right?

(Anonymous) 2021-11-23 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Why are you assuming that the only two alternatives here are MCU movies on the one hand, and indie arthouse movies on the other? That's a very weird and basically false dichotomy.

(Anonymous) 2021-11-23 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
But different cinemas go for different audiences and - get this - they can show them at different times of the day or on different screens. Even my local cinema, which is a classic big chain one, floods the place with Big! Event! MCU! movies when one comes out, then keeps the biggest screen for that (or movie marathons) for a few weeks longer while putting smaller movies in smaller theatres.

True about the popcorns and sodas though.

So the costs even out. No one is saying "stop showing blockbusters". The cheap-ass chicken nugget blockbusters keep the lights on. Is that what you're trying to say while pretending to sound smart?

(Anonymous) 2021-11-23 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Except they don't so... I guess you're wrong about that.

Why did you copy/paste your response from elsewhere in the thread?

I have no idea what you’re trying to do.
