I'm not sure if this is exactly the same, but there are a few pairings that have completely taken over my fandom, which is fine except everyone seems to be actively engaging in a shared delusion that these pairings are obvious and important when they're all tertiary characters in an ensemble cast who maybe exchange two lines over the course of the show. The relationships, and hell, most of their personalities are fanoned out of whole cloth, which is again fine, but the pretense that ~it's practically canon~ feels really fucking silly to me.
