What stats are you pulling from exactly? I’m not asking this to imply you have none, but just that it would be useful to the discussion to share your source so we can all be on the same page.

But in general, AYRT is correct that adaptations have been a thing since Hollywood started(and adaptations have existed before movies have as well). And it didn’t take long before remakes became a thing. All of this happened in the times of our grandparents. Whether it’s gotten marginally worse or not(or just more commented upon), it’s incorrect for other people to act like the unoriginality of Hollywood itself is even remotely new.

Two of the earliest movies we have, A Trip to the Moon and Nosferatu, were both adaptations.

Why people think this is new is beyond me.

NAYRT

There are more reboots, adaptations and sequels than there used to be:

https://digg.com/2020/original-vs-sequel-remake-highest-grossing-movies-percentage-visualized
https://www.radiotimes.com/movies/hollywood-sequels-remakes/

There are fewer mid-budget movies made than there used to be:

So yes, it is significantly worse. People are not just making it up.

Thanks for the stats, I appreciate it!
