I'm a hardline peridough-er, but yup, agreed. Except pronouncing Pho "fuh," I refuse. Sorry, Vietnamese people; I respect your soup-making skills very much, but I will pronounce it "foe" until the day I die. "Fuh" literally makes me angry at language. Like...did I just start to swear and then break off because I realized I was around children or something? Where is the rest of the word??!

blame the french for latinizing the vietnamese language in a way you disagree with, then

It's not the spelling, the word just sounds awkward with English phonetics. We don't have one-syllable words that end with a schwa (other than "a"... and "duh," which is literally meant to sound stupid).
