I like these tropes too but just recently saw a take on twitter shitting on it because characters meddling with each others' eating habits is actually evil, shouldn't be romanticized, etc

I mean, meddling and looking after someone are... two different ends of a spectrum? I'm constantly asking my officemate, "Have you eaten yet today/had lunch yet/I'm going to heat mine up do you want me to do yours?" because I know she's the kind of person that will get sucked into whatever she's working on and just... 'forget'.

That's looking after. Meddling would be if I forced her to eat what I bring, or judged her food choices or something.

I would say it crosses into having sort of a sexual, dom-sub energy sometimes.

Which I honestly don't intrinsically mind, at all, but it's very awkward if the writer isn't aware they're doing it.

Ooh, good point! What's funny is that the D/s energy can go either way. Like, it can be service-Dom-looking-after-their-sub energy, or it can be sub-tending-to-the-needs-of-their-Dom energy.

Personally I only like the service-Dom-energy version. I also love a bit of firm-service-Dom energy, where the "sub" character is a chaotic brat, and the "Dom" character is like, "You haven't eaten in it at least thirty hours, now sit down before you fall down, you idiot. I ordered takeaway--yes from the place with the pickles--and you are going to eat it, because I refuse to carry you home later when you pass out on a street corner from malnutrition."

Yeah absolutely!

Ah, I love this trope too, but yes, some fics definitely cross the line between age-appropriate and babying. Like A feeding B because B's too weak to eat or has a broken arm or something is fine, but A turning the spoon into an airplane and continuously wiping B's chin or mouth is a little too much for me.

Yes! So much! I super like stuff that doesn't cross the fine line but boooooy, is it hard to tell at first glance. So sometimes it suddenly slaps you in the face

Hi! I'm the anon who submitted the secret about how much I hate the thought of anyone noticing/memorizing/commenting on how much/when/what I eat. (or anyone else doing it to anyone else because then they could be doing it to me)

Making food and taking care of people who can't cook/care for themselves is so loving and beautiful. I adore it. As soon as it's not that it had better be a kink otherwise I've gotta dip.
