I'm just about to start "The Lily and the Crown" by Roslyn Sinclair.

Sheltered Princess/Pirate Queen Who Is *Technically* Her New Slave...

It sounds interesting!

I am almost finished with The Black Opera by Mary Gentle, which is very enjoyable - basically it's a fantasy novel about opera set in 19th century Italy where opera can be used as magical rituals, so two secret societies are basically having a magical duel by setting up competing operas. It's very fun. Basically a fantasy novel where everything works in opera logic. No rigor or realism, just vibes.

I will say my one real complaint is that the two most prominent male characters are in a love triangle where they're both in love with the same woman, which is obviously very appropriate for the opera theme, but I think it would have been vastly improved if it was just a romantic plot between the two of them. I briefly thought that's what the novel was going to do and it was great, really fun banter-y rivalry vibes. But, oh well.

I read it years ago and remember liking it, but don't remember much of the plot except sort-of-zombies and a literally explosive ending courtesy of a massive spoiler.

I finished reading Any Way the Wind Blows by Rainbow Rowell today and thought it was kinda unsatisfying (plus the biting kink felt like it came out of nowhere and I didn't find it very hot, but that's just me).

I've read some of her book "Fangirl" and I thought it was pretty good.

Not blow my mind good, but fun.

I agree. It was a let down, but I should have seen that coming after the second one tbh. Shame because Carry On was fun enough that I read it twice.

The romance scenes in the 3rd book were so subpar (no amount of using the word dick or cock is gonna make something hot on its own). The bar was the first kiss in the 1st book and it was never lived up to again.
