170. I like het because I can relate to it. I'm a girl whose preferences is guys. That's why I don't like slash; it's not that I find it gross or anything, I just can't relate to it because I'm not a male banging another male. You wouldn't go and tell a lesbian that her sexual preference makes her dumb, or a straight guy that "oh, you sleep only with women, you're so not cool", would you? (If you did, you're a terrible human being. =/) People like what they like and can't help it. This extends to fandom as well as real life.

That's not how I read it at all. It's no different from being unable to see what a pedophile sees in little children, imo. If you can't relate, you can't relate.

Me too. I don't have anything against it, I just can't relate to it. I think if I read/saw a canon story about a homosexual couple that was written with sensitivity and honesty like Six Feet Under, or something like that, then maybe I'd find myself rooting for them. But all my favorite fandom series happen to be devoid of canon slash, so I just don't have any slash ships.
