I don't read Mercedes Lackey but googling "Misty Lackey Mags" makes pretty obvious what I had assumed from context: that Mags is the central character of most of the Valdemar books that Lackey has published since 2008.

I'm honestly really mystified by this comment because it seems incredibly straightforward what OP is talking about and what they're saying. The secret design isn't great, but everything else is pretty comprehensible even to a casual observer.

Agreed. Though it helps that I do know who Mercedes Lackey is. I hadn't heard about this particular bit of fandom wank, however.
