how do people digitize VHS casettes anyway? Asking for a friend.

You either need a VHS player that can be directly connected to a computer or a regular VHS player and an analogue-to-digital converter cable . There are also VHS digitising services where you can send in your tapes to have someone else digitise them in case you don't want to buy any equipment you won't use a lot.
