Absolute chance. And luck.

I follow someone on tumblr who reblogs a bunch of art for my opt. I follow everyone the pictures start from, I follow everyone who makes insightful/interesting comments/tags on the art, I unfollow 2/3 of them. I comment of ao3 fic I reblog art I try to make insightful/interesting comments/tags (usually fail). One day someone two reblogs away from me starts up a new discord and I jump in. The post inviting people got like 60 notes and 5 reblogs. The odds of me seeing it were so low. I'm finally in a good place, I see tons of stuff I'm interested in and have places I can go to chat about my interests with real people.

Fuck man, the FBI spends less effort infiltrating crime. At least I'm (usually?) having joking into the void.

Oh wow that's a whole process. Admittedly, it seems like a good way to find what you've been looking for -- I hope your discord channels stay cool, calm, and a fun place to hang out.

But yeah, this is more work than I expected/research agencies should hire you lol

It's not like I went into it trying to find things, this is just the long path it took me to find a place I'm happy. Doing it on purpose sparks the kind of fear that inspires secrets.

(I do kind of work in research. My job is many things but tiny tedious steps towards infinitely distant goals is part of it.)

Ah, I see. It was more of a natural course of events vs orchestrating a plan to get there. I get that.
