Inspired by today's Secret #3.

The tavern drunk that waxes philosophically on and on.

The person who hides their insecurity behind quips and sarcasm.

Either the Plucky Girl or the Knight in Sour Armor, depending on the day or the piece of fiction. Someone who sees a tough situation, recognizes that it's tough, but then keeps working at it anyway. :)

the grumpy older person who gradually grows to like the protagonist (i.e Eda in the Owl House, Stan Pines in Gravity Falls)

There was a meme going around FB a couple years ago where you post pics of three characters who, combined, would make YOU.

I just put three pictures of Abed from Community. That's really all you need.

Nerdy and/or smart female characters. Also the over protective characters. And characters who hate themselves and/or are depressed. And bisexual characters.

Asshole-ish characters who say and do what they want; like Roger from American Dad and LSP from Adventure time.

Not that I would actually say any of it out loud, but I do think it a lot.

Overly serious, overworked sticks in the mud who are in their careers solely to have Mommy/Daddy's approval.

Characters who play support for the protagonist. I don't relate to the real heroes, but I see myself in the side characters. This might be a self esteem thing, but I'm sure I could find other reasons.

Autistic and gay. Also any character who actually has/had a good relationship with a loving father.

Characters who feel like absolute nobodies. Characters who feel useless, and beneath notice. Especially characters who have quietly accepted their nobody-ness and are now going about their lives, doing the best they can, even if their best is impressive to absolutely no one.

Crybabies, damsels in distress (the classic screaming kind, not the modern sassy kind) and the sidekick who keeps getting dragged into their daring friend's adventures and spends the whole time telling them not to do the stupid cool thing.

Also Alpha Bitches for some reason, a weird habit I had since I was little and had exactly one thing in common with an Alpha Bitch character in a book series I liked who was always "tossing her long blonde hair." I had dishwasher blonde hair and it was very long at the time, so I thought the book was telling me I was destined to become an Alpha Bitch in middle school. (Ironically my hair darkened to brown on its own by then and I also kept it mid-length.)

Asshole Geniuses, to be honest. I love characters who say exactly the kind of thing I might be thinking but am too socialized to be "nice" to actually say out loud.

Also, Dirty Old Ladies. Nanny Ogg from Discworld is my oldspiration (though with far fewer children)

Nerds. Glasses are bonus points but not necessary. "Autistic and gay" like Anon above said works too!

my favorite character in most fandoms usually tends to be the smartest and/or the craziest character.
