muenster. it's what my mom used to buy growing up, maybe because it's about as inoffensive as cheese can be.

kind of depends what context the "thinking of cheese" happens in though.

I was about to say, I think Muenster is the definitely the archetypal cheese. It’s delicious, but not too strong. Which is why it isn’t surprising that it frequently ranks high on lists about the best cheeses for sandwiches.

If someone asked me my favorite cheese however, I’d definitely say cheddar. But I do love Muenster, and I think it’s the ur-cheese a bit more.

Yeah, it's not my favorite either, I think that's mozzarella - but for similar reasons, in that it goes well with so many things and can be used almost anywhere. And really well with garlic and basil, which I particularly like.

But someone mentions cheese and what I see in my head is those deli slices...
