Plus some fandoms just fade when there is no new material, ie no new episodes. Star Trek fandom has been a rarity in that it grew in the lack of new episodes. And it was that growth that helped kick Paramount into making new shows and the movies. (That and Star Wars. When Paramount saw that there was money in them there stars, it kicked it high gear.) The new movie will bring in new fans and hoping more new stuff.
