And since when couldn't she stand on her own two feet?!

Since absolutely everything she did was dependent on someone else. Since she had NO IDENTITY without the Doctor. Since she couldn't live her life without being defined by somebody else.

Yes she was floundering in her own life, but so was Rose. All Rose did was go to work at a shitty job, go out with her boyfriend and go home. So Donna didn't have a boyfriend at the time she met the Doctor, but it wasn't like she never had any and after what happened in The Runaway Bride, I would totally be wanting to be single for quite a while.

Donna without the Doctor actually often reminds me of my friend, clearly very smart but doesn't see options of how to get her life any better at the time, so just pretends that it's hunky dory because doing otherwise all the time would be really god damn depressing.

She is strong willed, and stood on her own two feet consistently. She stood up to people, including the Doctor when he was wrong. The reason she was so ridiculously happy with him was that for most of her life she just wasn't being challenged, and just like in the case of my friend who is very smart but stuck in a crappy job right now and not able to afford school, she acted like "being the best temp in Chiswick" was hunky dory for her, when it clearly wasn't. Even though in the first episode of season 4 she was doing what she was doing because she wanted to find the Doctor? She was having FUN doing what she was doing, and she was GOOD at it.

And yeah, I totally just rambled. But I think Donna was the best thing to happen to Doctor Who since it came back on, we need MORE women like her on TV, not less.
