Re: C.S. Pacat's "Dark Rise" vs. Susan Cooper's "Dark is Rising" sequence

I just started Pacat's Dark Rise, but I couldn't get that other secret out of my head long enough to get into the book. I haven't read Cooper's book and couldn't decide if I should read that one first, for science. Thank you for your service, looking forward to seeing the secret. Then maybe I can finally just read Dark Rise.

I'd go ahe and read whichever book you want. They're not really similar, IMO, aside from the name of the main character and the general theme of good vs. evil, light vs. dark, etc. I didn't think Pacat's book was bad or anything, but the author sounded insufferable.

Lol probably is insufferable at this point, but some friends wanted me to read it. When I heard of a comparison so seemingly direct I assumed Cooper's book would be better and didn't want to read a "knock off" first :-P Good to know they're not really similar though, thanks!

I haven't read Pacat but I can say that on its own merits, Cooper's series is generally very much worth reading. If contemporary Arthurian fantasy YA is something that you want to read, it is exemplary.
