Re: Does the Neurotypical Person actually exist?

When i was about four, I got a chair, dragged it to the stove, and turned on the burner (electric), then put my hand on it. I just...wondered what it would be like.
My mom saw me and got me away before I seared my skin off.

I'd say i'm neurotypical, so...what an odd conclusion some people are making.

A variation of this is kinda how most if not all children learn not to touch the hot stove. By doing it. The saying "a burnt child dreads the fire" exists for a reason.

Interesting.

Not one of my siblings did this, and I don't have a single friend who did this, either. Who knows!

It's not literally the stove top all the time but other things that may hurt and you mainly learn it really does and isn't just a scare tactic by your parents after you do it and find out.

You are not neurotypical. At all. I'm not saying this to be insulting, but. You are not neurotypical.

And you base that on a single childhood anecdote?

I'm not insulted regardless, but that seems like a dramatic leap.

No, they’re not basing it on that one story. They’re being rude af.

Eh. Well, like I said - I'm not insulted either way. Seems like an odd thing to do.
*shrug*

AYRT Well you can fuck right off with that assumption.

My sister did a pretty similar thing when she was... 6(?) years old.
She got curious about the iron my mother always used and one day when my mother was out and let the iron to heat up she just put her hand on it, knowing that it'd be burning. SHE KNEW IT. My mom always told us not to touch it!

I'm younger than her by two years, so I was 4 at the time, and I did put my hand over the scolding iron with her the first time since I truster my sister, but I quickly learned not to do it again.
MY SISTER DID IT TWO MORE TIMES AFTER HEALING.
She is one of the most neurotypical and balanced people I know.

I think trying to play with fire/hot stuff is very instinctive for babies. It's the "Mom told me not to do it, but I have no idea why I GOTTA KNOW!!!". They usually stop when they feel the heat or when the parents is there to stop them, but sometimes babies are gonna be stupid masochistic babies.

This.

Older children will try to tell ghost stories with various light sources as stage props. Some of them have literally no idea how dangerous some light bulbs and candles are.

Sincerely, a daughter of an electrician.

And who hasn't had a pyro stage where setting things on fire is the activity du jour?

Heeee!
My mom would test the iron by licking her finger and touching it, and man, it took me a little to work myself up to that, but that's how I always tested the iron, too, after I got the hang of it.
