But then there's also the fact that I live by the Constitution of Canada, so the whole "to speak when command not to speak" is pretty much a moot point.

And while I agree more Americans should learn a second language, and even feel kind of bad about not having one myself (Soy tan buena con español tan usted es con ingles.), there's no reason that language has to be Chinese. Some of the people your insulting could be fluent in three European languages, or in Japanese, or any other number of non-English, non-Chinese languages that, for whatever reason, they decided were more useful to them.

I know a fair amount of both Japanese and Welsh (the latter having nearly no use to me, ever), I'd just rather not learn either Cantonese or Mandarin. Far too complicated for my tastes.
