Well, not really. The problem is people labelling themselves as "submissive" because they enjoy very mildly kinky things -which would be fine, but many do that because they want someone to hug them after sex, or want to be taken care of sometimes, or want someone assertive in their lives who tells them what to do when they don't know what to do themselves - according to their own wording. Part of this is what should ideally be expected of every partnership, not just kinky ones, but no one should be expected to make your decisions for you. Doms are not cures for depression, or indecisiveness, and being either does not make you submissive.

That's my problem with the brand of fan subs I am talking about. They're as common IRL, but I've never seen so many of them like I've seen in fandom. We get them in meetings sometimes and get lots of, "OMG these sick people really do that?!!"

I understand. I even agree with you. (from an outsiders, pov, to be honest, I'm just wired the lesbian variant of the vanilla branch, so to say)

But in the end: let them label themselves however they want. You can try and educate them, if it works, great, if not, let it go.

(as for the fics: I'm pretty sure if someone writes a really good BDSM story, they know how to use the correct labels in the correct situation. But I only read/write slash stuff, so my pov is somewhat limited in this)

Writing a whiny FS about it is my way of letting go. :D I have given up educating them or even thrusting dictionaries at them long ago, believe me. Quietly rolling my eyes and exchanging meaningful glances with my awesome submissive lesbian partner is a good outlet, too.

As for fics - oh, there are amazing BDSM fics out there. Too bad that most seem to think of BDSM as a sort of condiment to foreplay rather than as ... well, sex.

You sound too happy to care much about the definitions of others.
In my 30 years as open lesbian I've learned the worth, but also the limits of education

(but yeah, a little rant now and again does a person good.)

Tried to write it in m/m slash. For what it's worth. (but I do know my limits, as least that talent I do have)
Reading good stuff? Too few, I'm afraid, but it's out there. Definitely.
