Justice for Marietta Edgecomb!

AYRT hell yeah! Marietta was in a shit spot between a rock and a hard place and she was deeply uneasy about joining from the start (she caved to Cho's pressure then, look it's a pattern) and when the pressure of her mom possibly losing her job got to her? Of course she betrayed them.

She was a) saving her mom and b) already shown to be the sort of person who caves under pressure. Having sneak permanently stuck across her face is way, way too far.

On the other hand, the stakes were pretty high. It wasn't pure spite. They weren't just doing that stuff to have a good time.

tbh the biggest problem I have with it is that it's PERMANENT. Like, that's going to follow her all her life? She did NOT deserve that. If it faded in a month or so, honestly, I'd still hate it but I wouldn't hate it nearly as much. But Hermione permanently scarred a girl and that's loathsome.

I'm in the same boat as you. Plus, it's just such a petty "mean girls" response. It's not even useful, since it's retroactive and doesn't actually help the DA in any way. And since it was apparently just a shaming tactic, it would have been just as easy to go with "the traitor's hair turns a funny color" or "the traitor is forced to speak in iambic pentameter." But we went with permanent facial scarring of a teenaged girl. In retrospect, it's not as much of a shock as it could be that JKR's got... issues.
