That means that you sort of agree with this secret, right? Then you're probably the right one to ask- what is a "fandom feminist"? I know what fandom is, and I know what feminism is, obviously, but combined, I don't know what people are talking about.

Also, I don't get where this entire discussion is coming from, seems like there is something major I am missing. :(

To my understanding, a "fandom feminist" is a person within fandom who talks a lot about 'feminism' with regard to their favourite female character but doesn't really adhere to feminist philosophy. I'm not cynical enough to believe that all feminists in fandom are "fandom feminists" (I care a lot about women, and so do friends of mine), but I have come across more than a couple of people who would talk a lot about 'feminism' and then turn around and tear some female character or her actress down for "looking like a whore" or who've expressed anti-feminist views about non-fandom issues. It's not that people shouldn't bring feminism into fandom, or that discussing the way people talk about female characters in fandom is trivial -- it's not, and that's why I WANT to disagree with any secret which is negative about feminist discourse within fandom; it's that many self-styled fandom 'feminists' are anything but.

I knew some fandom feminists who basically just liked one female character in the canon we all shared. There were two specific other characters that would come up on occasion, and some of the derogatory comments these same women made about those two because they weren't the favorite female character (and happened to be ladies of the evening), sent my eyebrows up into my hairline more than a few times.
