nah, you're the one reaching with your second point. i'm in a small BL fandom and all the people writing rule 63 are queer women who just want some more f/f content in the fandom, these writers also write f/f with the canon ladies that exist too it's just easier to work with the male leads who get 98% of the show focused on them.

I do side-eye the numerous m/f genderbends (where they only switch the gender for one character, usually the bottom, to make the ship straight) for BL novels though. I know, I know, don't have to read them etc. But still.

you say numerous but i read fic for danmei books as well and the most common genderbending i see is both dudes being switched into ladies, i'll see an m/f genderbend fic once in a blue moon.

It's more of an issue in fanart but yeah, one of my rarepairs has several examples of this which is a bit annyoing because the ship doesn't have a huge ton of fic anyway.
