There is an 'elitism' with artists sometimes. Seeing comics as more like 'yellow journalism.' And the Academy tends to roll their eyes at all things fantasy/science fiction.

But they're pretty common, large, cult-wide. The only time I've looked down on someone who read comics wasn't really because they read comics. It just made their immaturity all the more hilarious and easy to harp upon. But a person has to pretty immature to get that kind of scorn from me. I may also define maturity different than 'most' people -- but those people are BORING.

Oh, god, the apprehension that those people have towards speculative fiction is ridiculous. If anything, I would think that it would be an absolute breeding grounds for themes. If 2001: A Space Odyssey came out now, they'd be scorning at it. Ugh.

I've looked down a few comic book readers, but that's just because they were tools, so there you have it.

But most people do define maturity as something meaning "no fun at all." That, or "having sex a lot."

Yes, but that's the world that needs changing, not us. Nerds united!
