I don’t see bi people being homophobic in these comments. I do see a lot of queer people taking some very shitty “representation” too seriously from a badly-written show created by straight cis men.

It sure does come across that way when apparently only gold star lesbians can qualify as real lesbians.

Really? Be honest. People arguing about this very specific case of a fictional character’s sexuality, you think that means they’re saying “if you’re a woman and you’ve ever dated a man, you’re bi”?

Must we fight? Can’t we just all agree that “we poppin the biggest bottles when makorra goes canon tonight” tumblr text post is hilarious & get along?

do people also not realize that that is the exact same sort of shit that bi people get in real life? "oh, you'll make up your mind eventually"? or people thinking you're just experimenting if you date someone of the opposite gender than what you've dated up until now?

it's bad enough to get that kind of thing from straight people but about ten times worse when it's coming from other queer people who should know better.

I'm bi. I know what you're saying but I think you're taking this shit too personally. Somebody interpreting a character's sexuality differently than you doesn't mean they are saying that about all bi people. I don't see people using biphobic language upthread either, like the example you've given?

Similarly, they are not saying all lesbians have to only have ever been attracted to/dated/interested in women to be lesbians. They're saying "I think this character's sexuality is this" and that doesn't actually have anything to do with you.

Know what I consider biphobic? Making a bi protagonist in your series who is supposed to have a romantic ending with a female lead that's possible to completely miss unless you read the interviews after the show was already over. This is what happened when I watched the finale. I did not know Korra and Asami were supposed to be dating. I did not know Korra was even attracted to women at all. Bi rep where? Not in the show I watched with my own bisexual eyes.

I agree with you on not really seeing any biphobic or homophobic language or remarks in this thread. Although I’m a lesbian, not bi, so it’s not really my place to tell bi people what’s biphobic or not.

You have Nickelodeon to blame for that, not the creator’s of the show. They tried their best with what they could do, and without this finale, we might not have amazing rep like Lumity from the Owl House. It’s still shitty that finale was so ambiguous as to be easy to miss the romantic aspects of it altogether, I’m not denying that. Just trying to give blame to the ones who actually deserve it. And I don’t agree that the stifled and ambiguous nature of the ending was necessarily biphobic, just disappointing(but again, it’s not my place to say for sure, so you can feel free to disregard my disagreement on this matter). At least the post series comics pick up the slack and make Korrasami much more blatantly romantic, for those inclined to read the comics.
