164 I am so sorry you have to deal with that. I have to admit that I pretended to be male in my fandom before to explore my male gender identity. It really helped me to figure out my own gender, as on a forum, it was so much easier to refer to myself with different pronouns. It helped me realise and helped me dare to realise that I am bigendered. Had I known I was harming people, I would have never done that. I am truly sorry.

Not OP, but I'm guessing the OP is talking about people who pretend to be guys online just on a whim, or because it makes them more popular--if you're exploring your gender identity, that doesn't sound like anything to be ashamed of. :)

Well, when I first did it I thought it was a whim. It became more in the first hour or so, though, but one can never be too careful, I think.

Exploration is something to be applauded. It's how many trans - FtM and MtF alike - really understand themselves and what they want to be. If it's something that helped you understand who and what you are, then it's not harmful, for anyone involved.

Now, when people do it because "zomg yaoi girlz will liek my art/rp/fanficz cause I say I'm a dood and they liek da gay gaiz best!" - which I've seen done in RP groups, art galleries, and lj communities alike - that's when there's something truly offensive to me. Because playing at it just to look cool when people out there are are struggling to truly *be* that... it just makes others think the same about us. I've had those sentiments reflected onto me for my struggles, because people assumed I was some yaoi-loving chick trying to look cool to the fandom.

People like you have never hurt people like me. But I respect you all the more, for your concern over the subject.
