126. Uh, that didn't happen in the show. It was, at most, inappropriate touching. Shizuru's too much of a pussy to do anything like that IRL, and far too self-loathing. You guys are completely missing the point. For one thing, no matter how "open to interpretation" that scene was, molestation HAPPENED. And fans (and the series writers) are romanticizing it, which is worrying to say the least. What does this say about their attitudes towards real victims?

Second of all, the author is writing about how he (or she) is disturbed by rape and molestation being taken lightly in general, not only in this specific pairing.

As far as I'm concerned, Shizuru wouldn't have been so blushing and hesitant about a kiss if she had previously raped Natsuki. Doesn't exactly add up in my mind, but either way, the scene is open to interpretation.

Thank you for your glaring assumption. I, myself, am a female-bodied person who is homosexual. I never said nor implied that lesbian sex (or in this case, rape) is lesser or different.

In any case, sarolynne has already written an excellent reply, but I will back that up: no one here, in this comment thread, is saying that molestation is cool or okay, and I think we all agree that the OP is right in that respect. However, rape or molestation between Shizuru and Natsuki is not an explicitly stated fact in canon. If you want to argue that Shizuru's stolen kiss was molestation, well, okay, I can buy that to a degree -- it did involve a breaking of trust. But beyond that, we simply don't know for sure what else -- if anything -- happened, and that's why we're having this discussion in the first place.

Ok, so how different is "innappropriate touching" from rape? And what difference does it make, when talking about breaking a best friend's trust? Are you disputing the lesser of two evils to justify a point? I don't think the point was "Is Shizuru a rapist?" but rather "It's wrong for people to glamorize molestation."

I didn't see anyone claiming that glamorizing or fetishizing rape and molestation shouldn't be disturbing. No one is arguing that. No one is trying to defeat that point--that is a valid personal reaction to a common situation in fandom at large, and presumably in Mai HiME fandom. I wouldn't know. I've never looked. I watched the anime a couple of years ago, and never pursued it beyond that.

The point here is that their interactions in case aren't a good canon example of glamorizing molestation, and that not all of their shippers are, because it's a perfectly reasonable interpretation of events that no rape or molestation took place. That that sequence was a manifestation of Natsuki's fear and the power of suggestion working through Haruka's accusations. That's how I remember interpreting events when I watched it. If you disagree... good for you! That's fine. But that doesn't make it canon. It makes it a reading of events that were not explicit.

"Bad example" =/= "OMG YOU ARE WRONG."
