I don't have any flack with the word penis, but in porn, it's one of the least sexy words you can use that isn't purple prose, to me. Reading a fic and seeing "he slid his penis into her vagina" would make me click the back button way faster than "he slid his cock into her pussy," or hell, even "he slid inside of her." The clinical terms for body parts are just... too clinical.

Also, there is no good, sexy way to write about testicles. Or rimming. :| It just does not exist, lmao.

I definitely understand what you mean. There has to be a middle ground between crass language and clinical though, and sometimes I wonder if people lean too far into crass.

I'd think it just varies from character to character -- and to the author's own personal preferences. I don't know many guys who would use the term "penis" to talk about sex acts, honestly, so I'm sure most fictional guys would automatically go to "cock" or "dick." I'm not sure about most girls, but personally both the clinical and the more crass (in my opinion) turn me off -- I can't get into "vagina" in fics, but "cunt" turns me right off (mostly because I associate it with the insult).

I've just kinda... gotten used to the fact that I'm either gonna have to let my brain skim over the words used and not care so much about porn vocab, or hardly ever read porn at all, because most of it is full of words that do nothing for me. And even words I like can come off really badly if they're used in the wrong situation (like, "length" works in some sentences better than others). But when it comes to crass, it's mostly what would be crass and what would be IC for the characters, and what the author actually likes. If some people really do like reading about dicks and cunts, or penii and vaginas, then it's not really bad of them to write it like that. It just won't appeal to the people who don't find that set of words appealing.

Not at all. I don't find many opportunities to talk about porn. I also had to wait for my inner thirteen-year-old to quit laughing about the word "penii". I hate "cunt" too though.

To a degree I feel like using the "right" words for body parts is like keeping British characters from using American slang or vice versa. I think the only situation where IC language would turn me off would be if the fandom or the situation was turning me off to begin with... that's just me though.
