I really do. I thought the criticisms were relevant, and I am sorry that it got shut down.

The problem with the hate meme was that it bred a lot more emotional vitriol--aimed at both the creator of the hate meme and at named members of fandom--than it did honest criticism. I mean, how is, "I hate mpreg and kiji's hands should be cut off" going to contribute to the fandom? That's a personal opinion and a personal attack and it just makes everyone feel bad. We probably need to hear some of the critiques--like the people who felt they couldn't voice dissenting opinions, even politely, lest they be blacklisted. That's bad. But 90% of the hate was just that: hate. Usually personal hate that had little, if anything, to do with the actual quality of the stories.

When I bounced in (like six to eight hours later), I caught up on the concrit (before they started calling names? I missed that part), but some of the concrit was really really relevant. To the point where, I could understand why people wouldn't want to say it on the comm, because really, when a certain piece of work gets rave reviews, who wants to be the arsehole at the dinner party to throw a dissenting opinion in the mix?

I'm sorry that it just went to all splooge, because it made me think long and hard about what I was writing and putting out, that's all.
