Ah, I just remembered another instance from the show that refutes the rape claim that I neglected to mention in my previous post directly before this one. In the episode in which Shizuru actually kisses Natsuki (and is consequently spotted by Yukino and Haruka), she appears hesitant and shy. I would find this behaviour very odd given the rape scenario. If she has already molested Natsuki, why would kissing her make Shizuru nervous? It really doesn't make any sense. I pose the idea that rape did not take place. It is possible that Shizuru slept with Natsuki in her underwear or naked in order to simulate the sensation of having Natsuki close (as a lover would be). However, I vehemently argue that there is no proof that Shizuru went beyond that. Granted, this is still a serious breach of the younger girl's trust, but it is NOT rape.

Oh, one other thing, as far as thinking about Shizuru as a male. I argue that the dynamics between male/female relationships and female/female relationships IS different. Women have a natural familiarity with each other that they lack with men. For instance, changing in the presence of a female friend is not the same as changing in the presence of a male friend. My opinion on this issue does NOT mean that I do not consider rape amongst women to be "real" rape. It is very real, and very wrong. However, a woman sleeping next to a female friend (even in underwear, although naked is crossing a line) who is in distress and in need of comfort is not the same as a male doing it. Again, this point is debatable.
