What is everyone doing?

Watching my niece and nephew tonight. Tomorrow going to make some chicken stew and watch some scary movies. Not sure what yet, though!

Sleeping in after my first week of work after my hospital stay. Very exhausted (headed to bed soon).

I want to buy some embroidery floss for a new crossstich project (another birthday gift), which will put the number of current projects to 4. (yikes)

Maybe read, and definitely clean up my kitchen XD

Actually did make plans for tomorrow, which is daunting enough that I didn't sleep last night due to thinking about all the things that could go wrong with my stupid body and ruin it.

But if it doesn't, I'm going to drive to Ohio and see a friend, and acquire a new bunny. Weirdly enough, turns out I've driven literally right past the place she works (pet daycare/rescue) dozens of times on my way to and from cons in the Baltimore/DC area, so when I googled the address I did a double-take. Right on the off-expressway exchange I always used to get onto the OH Turnpike. At least among all my concerns about my health, I don't have to worry about fumbling with maps or getting lost. :D

And then Sunday will probably be spent cleaning up after the little dude as he settles in and I figure out where and how he likes his litterbox, and taking about a billion pictures of how adorable he is. (I have not seen him yet. I don't even know what color he is. But he is a bunny and therefore I'm certain he is adorable and I will love him instantly.)

...This is the first time I've driven further than downtown in my own city since January 2020 (when I actually stopped at the Shell station just south of this rescue to rest my eyes for half an hour, hahah) and I am intensely worried about public bathrooms thanks to omicron, so I'm pretty tense about this. But. Bunny!

How far of a drive is it? It feels like it would be super long but I just googled and Ohio and DC are not that far apart!

I hope the new bunny adoption goes well.

It isn't, yeah, though OH is a pretty wide state. ;) Toledo is a bit south of Detroit... but I'm coming from almost the west coast of MI. So depending on traffic/weather, should be 2-3 hours. (The drive to DC/Baltimore is about 8-10 hours from my area, so this particular interchange in OH has always been a nice "first stop" along the way there, fill up on gas so I don't get gouged at turnpike service plazas.)

Fortunately the stretch of I-94 between here and Ann Arbor (when I turn off to head south to OH) is the most familiar stretch of highway anywhere for me, I know all the good places to stop if I have to. I just really hope I don't have to...

You're right that he's a bunny so it follows that he should be adorable!

Yes! Literally all I know about him so far is he is a boy and a lop (and I am wary of him being a boy, since so many mishaps get made in that regard, but I already have one "oops it's a girl" so if so, oh well), and his previous owner fell on hard times due to covid.

...So the last few weeks I've been seeing bunny group posts on Facebook and looking at all the adorable lops and going "I wonder if he'll look like that one. Or maybe like that one. Or one of these two." Haven't found one yet that I'd consider a disappointment. ;)

Just occurred to me though, I see almost entirely mini and holland lops on those pages. I may wind up being surprised (but still not disappointed) if I arrive and oh look - english or french lop. :O That would certainly be a new experience for me... double my food budget, hahahah.

In my experience, going from a regular dwarf bunny girl to a not that big American fuzzy lop boy tripled my bunny food budget (not only because of all the fresh vegetables I had to buy, but also because of hay and pellets - even though I don't give him lots of pellets). And the litter, let's not forget about the litter! I have to change it every day and he's got a cat sized litter box.

So, be prepared, I guess?

As for the whole bunny girl just happens to be a bunny boy, it happened twice to my mom. Then again she bought them to rescue them for a pet shop when they were still about three month old-ish so she didn't have all the information needed and they had never been seen by a vet. My boy was rescued when he was about 6 month old so there was no sexing issue. And I've been told that it's pretty rare to get it wrong when they say he's a boy. It's mainly the other way round.

Yeah, the largest bun I've had so far was about 10lbs (couldn't tell you what breed, I suspect he had been bred for meat :/) and when I first saw him I was like "....WHOA BIG BOY." And I have a friend with a Flemmie (who is on hospice care right now in his old age, shout out to Mr. Alister) and the amount of food he needed was nuts. Fortunately since I already have 4 and have had as many as 6, I just buy pellets/litter/hay in bulk and have a ton on hand - if I wind up with a big bun, just means I'll have to buy more sooner, and put in a produce order immediately. ;)

Also means the carrier I have would be pretty inadequate. When I stop on the way home so he can have food and water, might just let him run around the back of the car with the seats flipped down. :D *packs some puppy pads to go with the towels*

And I think a lot of people get their sexing info wrong because cheapo pet stores who do things like selling baby bunnies at Easter do it too early when it's not so obvious, and then never look again. In my case, I went to adopt a "boy" nicknamed Bruiser because he liked to fight everyone. Got "him" home and he started trying to build a nest and I went "......" and took a look myself. Turns out the rescue just took the previous owners (who treated her roughly and obviously didn't give a crap) at their word that this was a boy, and the smelly territorial poops were something that foster had only ever experienced with boys, so they thought it was confirmation. But that's fine, I got a girl who needed kindness instead of a boy who needed kindness. =)

(Aaaahh so excited to meet my new fur-kid I couldn't get back to sleep after 7 on a Saturday. Already packed stuff for bun, time to pack things for me and my dumb body being out of the house for half the day. :D)

Resting a lot, distracting myself when awake because the painkiller I was prescribed isn't really cutting it, at least not yet. Spent a long time in the dentist chair today, had 1 tooth pulled and the one next to it root canaled. I honestly can't think straight through the pain. So no plans at the moment.

I hope you find a ton of stuff to distract you!

I hope it is a good surprise too! Would suck if they like...sacrificed you to appease some god. :/

I don't really have any right now; probably grocery shopping, cleaning and doing more of the homework I need to do.
