Re: Secrets you don't want to make...

Watching the second episode of The Book of Boba Fett and I did find it a bit weird suddenly having a more complicated look at Tusken Raiders. But I've seen discussion about this on social media along the lines of it retrospectively making people extra uncomfortable about THAT scene in Attack of the Clones.

I know Attack of the Clones is Not Good but...wasn't that scene always meant to make us feel uncomfortable? Narratively it's not a heroic action, even if the execution (especially Padmé getting over Anakin's confession pretty quickly) isn't great.

It is meant to be messed up. Padme is a pretty messed up person as well as Anakin, it is less dwelt upon, because it is Anakin's story not hers, but Padme is a very lonely young woman whose early life of politics left her without a lot of genuine companionship. That is why she falls for Anakin so quickly, and why she forgives him so much.

I think it's messed up but it's not clear how messed up it's supposed to be.

I haven't seen these discussions, but since Attack of the Clones came out in 2002 and features Anakin heartlessly revenge-slaughtering a bunch of "sand people," I don't know that there is a way this could've been done that wasn't more disturbing than what George was willing or able to portray onscreen. He should have just not done that thing.

But yes, the fact that there is more narrative weight placed on Anakin beheading Dooku the straight-up asshole than there is on him murdering Tusken children does make it worse.
