Heh, bipolar she most certainly was. I guess I figured that was just... a Russian thingXD Or a Dostoevsky thing. I mean, they were all pretty batshit, the women especially. Did you think Lise(/Alyosha) was especially crazy?

Oh, good, it wasn't just me--because quite a few people in my English class thought her relationship with Alyosha was the best part of the book or something. o_O

Maybe it was a Russian/Dostoevsky thing--because you're right, they all had quite a few issues in craziness and mental health...however, Grushenka and Katerina kind of grew on me, Grushenka especially after I acted her out in our mock trial scene. XD However, Lise always seemed a bit mental to me.....and thus, Alyosha/Lise made NO SENSE to me...^^;;

No, no, I love talking about TBK, especially since so few people have read and/or liked it! :D Feel free to bring anything else up--I still have my copy sitting on my desk and my mind mostly fresh with thoughts. :3

Well, I'd hate to mislead you--I did love Lise and Alyosha, and was very frustrated that there was no real ending there (although that was a problem with the book in general. Seriously Dostoevsky; closure, have you heard of it?!), but I definitely saw the insanity of it. I just figured Russians were insane, and went along with itXD

I had an on-off relationship with Grushenka, and Katerina... oh, bother. I haven't read it in so long! I feel like at the very end Katerina does something horrible in the trial, and it made me furious with her. But basically, I think the reason I liked Lise a lot, but Grushenka and Katerina not so much, is that Dmitry was my favorite, and those two kept screwing him over. Lise, on the other hand, was screwing with Alyosha, who is strong/not insane, and seemed not to noticeXD

Ooh, other things, other things... well, okay, speaking of batshit crazy: what do you think about Ivan and Smerdyakov? 'Cause the more I read, the more I thought that wasn't just in my head. I know the Russians were/are a lot more expressive than I'm used to (heh, all the men and their kissing really threw me off for a while), but it felt like Smerdyakov was a little weirder around Ivan than even that can account for.

Also, your icons are tres cute :3

I think Dostoevsky was planning on having closure in the second book--but got too sick and wasn't able to write the second book that would have explored Lise and Alyosha's relationship more, plus probably would have explained a multitude of other things...

I just finished reading it for English a month or so ago, so that's why things are pretty fresh in my mind. :) Yeah, Katerina at first said that Dmitri was innocent and all--but then Ivan went batshit crazy over Dmitri not being guilty and seeing the devil and all, and Katerina loved him and everything, so she ousted Dmitri with the drunken confession to try and save Ivan. ;p Hehe, personally I loved Ivan the most of the guys (Grusha was my favorite character in general)--but I liked Dmitri as well, I couldn't but help laugh over some of his antics...and that's probably why I disliked Lise--she kept screwing with Alyosha and it BOTHERED me that he never did anything about it; I hated how non-assertive he was with her when she went crazy on him...

Smerdyakov wanted Ivan to respect him and valued Ivan's high intellect, but in the end it was Smerdyakov that out-maneuvered Ivan and I think he took high satisfaction in that; Ivan basically went nuts (literally) and Smerdyakov cleverly got Dmitri guilty of the murder instead...
