I've been craving pasta lately. I usually like the more spaghetti style red sauce with meat as protein, but my recent cravings have been way more about the noodles and just a simple thing to it. I've made the garlic and oil pasta with lemon juice and parsley and it really hits the spot. I also made a pesto with romano cheese instead of parmesean and pistachios (no more pine nuts in the house) and it was really good. I think I ate the pesto pasta with a hard boiled egg I had in the fridge but honestly the pasta is fine as is.

My question is, is my body lacking something that I'm craving something so....carby?

I don't crave rice, bread or ramen (late December I went through a ramen phase but I'm tired of ramen now lol), just pasta.

And is it just a taste thing to start to not care about meat? I grew up in a meat eating family. I've always liked to eat meat, but in recent months IDK...like meat tastes good but it's not the star of the dish anymore for me. I don't like to waste food, meat especially so I feel bad/weird when even 3 slices of steak feels like too much meat to go with my bowl of ramen.

Is it just a change in tastes? I'm in my 30s and I've always had a rather simple love affair with food, which is, I like most foods and can eat almost anything. preferences are changing?

I do know a craving for pasta can indicate a lack of the amino acid tryptophan, which is vital in the production of the “feel-good” hormone serotonin. If you are not getting enough carbs in your diet, this can put you in a bad mood. Cravings for high-carb foods are our body's way of trying to cheer itself up. So are you feeling stress or overworked? Body trying to cheer itself up.

Also an increase of activity and not eating to match could be leaving your body trying to figure out what it can get into it to convert to fuel to match the new level of activity you are doing.

Are you female, have you had unprotected sex recently? IF the answer to both is yes, then I may have a theory.
