Inherent nastiness.

No such thing. Just hurt people saying things they'd regret if they ever got into a healthier headspace. Even you.

Idk, nonny. Most might, but that also requires self-reflection and there's a few folks who don't have it or don't want it.

Self reflection is not always possible if you are hurt badly enough, or not taught how to achieve it. Ignorance and pain go hand-in-hand.

It’s a bit naive to assume all nastiness comes from hurt. And it can even be a little disrespectful to those who are treated like dirt by the people who are acting nasty to write it off or minimalize it as “they hurt you because they’ve been hurt, and are lashing out”. Sometimes the answer when asking nasty people “who hurt you?” is: “nobody”.

Saying there is no such thing as inherent nastiness is just as narrow minded as saying there’s no such thing as inherent kindness. Both do exist. Some people aren’t inherently nasty, most people aren’t. But while acknowledging that some people act badly because they’re in a bad headspace is true and acknowledges that life is all about grey areas, saying that nobody acts badly without having an understandable or sympathetic reason is borderline black and white.

Don’t get me wrong though, I think you seem like a good person for wanting to believe in the best of people. And I think in general, that faith is not misplaced. But in this situation, and others like it, it’s not always that simple. There isn’t always a tragic backstory or underlying sympathetic reason for bad behavior.

You're certainly changing my mind on inherent nastiness, but I'd still much rather think of you as being hurt by someone and just too traumatized to see it.

Da

What about this comment was inherently nasty or even all that rude? You seem way too over sensitive.
