Glad you're confident and enjoy writing, OP.

However, for anyone (not just OP), "[praise] from other fic writers whose work is extremely high-quality" is not a measuring stick of skill. The circle-jerk mentality is still very prevalent in fandom. (And obviously what one person considers "good" might be trash to someone else.)

Yeah. To share a bit of perspective, I used to be a pretty popular writer in my corner of fandom, and one thing I remember doing a lot was commenting on other big writers' fic, sometimes without even reading them. Obviously I was enthusiastic and bubbly and even "insightful" in my comments, but I considered all that networking, just a necessary part of cultivating my online space. Really, some of those folks were pretty cool and I wanted to talk to them more than read their writing. I fully expected people were doing the same thing to me.
