Re: Your first ever TvTrope?
(Anonymous) 2022-02-09 11:33 am (UTC)(link)I never said I disliked anime, I love it. I just recommended several manga to the anon asking yesterday. And the “liking anime(especially hentai) a little too much” part of my comment doesn’t actually reflect my views of whether people can actually like anime “too much”. I was alluding to why certain types of anime don’t get pages anymore, and are stuck in the red link club now, because places like Something Awful made a big deal about the user base of TV Tropes being “overrun with weebs”. Something Awful had a whole thread making fun of TV Tropes(Troper Tales in particular, which was a bit cringe for all that cringe matters, but SA goons vicious and bullying towards Tropers), several in fact if my memory serves correctly, and the horny stuff on TV Tropes got nuked shortly after. It could be a coincidence, and Fast Eddie implied it was more due to Google ad revenue going down due to things like hentai titles having their own trope works pages. Who can say the real reason, maybe it’s a mixture of the two, or another separate reason.
But I actually miss when those had their own page, because it helped me discover hentai that tried to be more like Imma Youjo, which was an interesting watch even though it did nothing for me as a hentai. Plus, it was just genuinely fascinating to me to see trope pages talking more in depth about works that are usually just written off as plotless smut. And sometimes they are, but that doesn’t mean that discerning eyes can’t still pick up on things like tropes and recurring plot details. At least the Wayback Machine exists to read most of these nuked pages.
Either way, you’re full of it to just assume I hate anime or whatever you’re going on about based on my comment. All I was saying was that I had been on TV Tropes since it was a Buffy fan site, and I don’t remember any anime hate or negative bias. I expected you would provide examples or personal anecdotes that I may have missed. And I was willing to hear them out, because it’s not like I ran the site and saw everything there. Instead, you made a bad faith leap and showed your whole ass.
