(Anonymous) 2022-02-11 03:08 am (UTC)(link)FUCKING THIS!!!!! I was considering writing a really long and personal blog about why I choose to write meet-cute romances with happy endings (usually cishet) and a large amount of smut (most of it is vanilla sex) and all the while I'm Ace. Writing these stories is a way I deal with my sexual assault as well as a lot of other things, like my relationships to the men in my life, becoming more comfortable with my sexuality, sensuality and sexual agency, a form of escaping to tell myself FUN and HAPPY stories where the ending is always happy. Like, I don't want what I write in my fics to happen to me, not really. But it's a way for me to exercise feelings and thoughts that I have difficulty expressing or trying to understand all the while it makes me feel safe. Because they're just stories I write, so I can control what happens.
I write all sorts of genres, but I've been heavily focused on fluff, vanilla sex, humor, and happy endings in recent years, and it's not because I believe romances are going to work out that way or that ideally I want to meet a stranger and fall in love with them in 3 days (or that I think that is healthy to do). I know they don't work out that way but I don't want to live forever being haunted by what happened to me, unable to envision love and affection as something good. The fear of sex IRL actually made me fear confronting my own queerness for a long, long time.
Like, it's complicated! We have things that appeal to us for personal reasons, and sometimes that personal stuff is really heavy and sometimes it's not. But like, come on, let people enjoy fiction.
