Jeez, I'm almost a bit jealous of you OP. I can think of 2 or 3 series that were important to me as a kid where the author turned out to be a complete shit-weasel, but not one of them was so awe-inspiringly, jaw-droppingly good that I couldn't believe that a flawed person could have written such a brilliant series. (If anything, most of them have a few "ow, that awkward thing is so much worse in hindsight" moments.)

It's entirely possible I'm looking at it through biased eyes because I found it at a really vulnerable time of my life and it got me through some damn tough times. I think I'll always be really attached to it though
