I mean, if you genuinely do think the work itself is good and you want to rec it, just say that? "Don't look at the author, they're a scumbag, but this series itself has this, this, and this going for it, and I honestly think it's worth a look anyway. I really enjoyed it." People do that all the time with media. Like, I genuinely think a lot of Lovecraft's stories are excellent ('The Terrible Old Man' is my favourite), so I tell people to allow for the fact that they were written by an incredible racist from the 1920s, but read them anyway and see what they think.

As someone upthread correctly guessed, the author is Marion Zimmer Bradley who abused her kids in multiple ways and helped cover up her husband's repeated child molesting...it happened before my time (I only learned it a few years ago) but it was one of the biggest scandals in scifi/fantasy world when it came out. Bit hard to rec anything with that attached to the author's name
